PROGRAMME SPECIALIST: MEDIA FREEDOM
MONITORING & RESEARCH
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) is a membership-based regional media freedom and freedom of expression advocacy organisation, which seeks to promote free, independent and pluralistic media, as, envisaged in the 1991 Windhoek Declaration.
MISA is currently seeking to employ a Programme Specialist: Media Freedom Monitoring & Research to take the lead in the implementation of its flagship SADC Journalists Under Fire campaign, the African Media Barometer research project and overall support to journalists in southern Africa.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
A Masters Degree in Media Studies: Humanities; Social
Sciences; Political Science/Administrative Studies or
related field

Firm grounding in media freedom, freedom of expression
and media development issues;

Knowledge of the southern African region
-
At least five years experience in writing/ editing/
producing publications of a journalistic nature;

Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills;
-
Ability to use a smart combination of traditional mass
media and new digital media to spearhead
communications strategies for MISA campaigns;
-
IT/ website skills.
