Statement on the Launch of the MISA John Manyarara Investigative
Journalism Award
The Media Institute of Southern Africa recognises the importance
of investigative journalism as a field of journalism which is essential
to the consolidation of democracy in southern Africa . To further
encourage the practice of investigative journalism in the Southern
African Development Community (SADC), on World Press Freedom Day
2001, MISA inaugurate the John Manyarara Investigative Journalism
Award. Named after the MISA Trust Fund Board (TFB) founding chairperson
Judge John Olivier Manyarara, the award seeks to recognise and
reward excellence in investigative journalism in the SADC region. Read more

In 2006, the John Manyarara Investigative
Journalism Award was awarded jointly to Mabvuto Banda of Nation
Publications in Malawi and Stefaans Brummer, Sam Sole, Wisani
