Malawi:
Private broadcasters and newspapers under fire from state broadcaster
A private radio station in Malawi, Capital Radio
on June 5 wrote to the state broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation
demanding a retraction
and an apology of a story alleging that Capital Radio and other
media houses are being financed by the opposition United Democratic
Front to dent the government's image. Read more

Malawi: Journalist barred
from media tour by Information Ministry
The Chinese Embassy in Malawi removed Wisdom Chimgwede,
Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) editor, from the list of journalists
travelling to
China on a media tour it sponsored after receiving instructions
from Malawi's Ministry of Information. The visit was slated to
begin June 21. The ministry had
earlier accused the journalist of writing negatively about the

of taxation of prepaid mobile services
MISA Namibia has called on government to scrap Value Added Tax on
prepaid
mobile services following the move by the Namibian government to
scrap

New private TV station begins test broadcasts
A new free-to air television station broadcasting
to a radius of 55 kms around the Zambian Capital Lusaka has started
its test transmission following the granting of a construction
permit by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services.

Minister of Communications that the appointment process for the
board of the South African
Broadcasting Corporation will be reviewed. It is a sign of strength,
rather than weakness for a government to listen to its people,
acknowledge if a policy position is flawed, and take steps to
