Newly appointed Information Minister pledges to work on pending media policies

On 17 November 2008, newly appointed Information Minister Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha promised to look at the pending media laws.

According to the report monitored by MISA-Zambia on Muvi television on 17 November, 2008, Mr Shikapwasha said that he was waiting for the pending list of media laws to be compiled by his Permanent Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Nyirenda, for him to commence work on the pending laws.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha who held the position of Home Affairs Minister was appointed on 14 November, 2008 as Information and Broadcasting Services Minister and has replaced Mike Mulongoti.

MISA Zambia congratulated the Minister on his appointment and urged him to implement the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Acts of 2002 and enact the Freedom of Information Bill.
