NBC appoints new DG

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has finally appointed a Director General, after a year and a half of searching. Director Generals (DG), in the person of Albertus Aochamub, the former Head of Corporate Affairs at Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC). This announcement was made by the recently appointed Chairperson of the Board, Sven Thieme.

Aochamub's appointment has been approved by Cabinet, as of 1 August 2010. The Board deemed him the best candidate for the often volatile position, out of a list of 12 applicants. He becomes the ninth DG of the NBC in its 20-year span.

“After a very thorough recruitment process, which tested the competencies, qualifications, experience, key outputs, measurements, skills, attributes, as well as the affirmative action status, Albertus Aochamub was the most successful candidate from a list of 12 applicants,” said Thieme. Aochamub is a seasoned professional, with nearly 12 years of senior management experience in the Namibian communications and financial services industries. His experience will be a critical building block in driving the transformation agenda of NBC into the future, he added.

On his part, Aochamub said: “I am very delighted to be granted this opportunity to become part of a tremendous team of people, who keep our nation informed, educated and entertained. I do not doubt the enormity of the task at hand, but I remain hopeful that with the involvement of all role players, we shall succeed.”

Before joining MTC, he had stints with First National Bank as Corporate Communications Manager in 2004. He was also the manager of Telecom Namibia Internet Service Provider Company, I-Way. //End//
