Second Private TV Broadcaster Starts Signal Testing

A second private television broadcaster in the country, All For Jesus (AFJ) has started testing its signal strength in readiness for 24 hour-broadcasting. The broadcaster’s Executive Director Pastor Felix Zalimba told The Nation Newspaper that the station is only playing songs at the moment.

“Once the signal testing month has been finalized, Malawians will experience the first private television station with so many life changing programmes,” he said.

The TV station is owned by Malawians and holds a private broadcasting license issued by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA). The license, according to Zalimba, means that the station will be able to advance its views and vision informing the local people on various issues affecting their daily lives.

The AFJ Executive Director further said viewers do not need to pay anything in order to watch the station, neither do they need a satellite. All that is required is a locally available UHF aerial fixed on the roof.

Broadcasting licenses are granted to eligible individuals and organizations only when MACRA advertises or calls for such interested persons to apply. The communications regulatory body has its own criteria for choosing eligible people and organizations to be granted licenses.
