Fire razes Star radio
Management of Star radio, a privately owned radio station based in Blantyre in the Southern part of Malawi, are counting its losses following a fire that gutted part of the radio station. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of 3 November 2009, has destroyed the radio station’s two main studios and part of the on-air studio.

According to Star radio’s Public Relations Officer Victoria Damalekani, the fire burnt five studio computers, a development that forced the station to go off air temporarily. “Our five production computers, mixers as well as sound boxes have been burnt. We are still investigating the cause of the fire,” she told The Nation newspaper.
The station is at the moment only playing music and flying commercials.
Star radio started broadcasting three years ago and is among the country’s 25 broadcasting institutions.
