Corruption Investigations Launched At SABC

Officials from the Auditor General's office have launched an investigation on 3 August 2009 following an order from the Parliament's Portfolio Committee to probe into the alleged mismanagement and corruption scandals at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

The investigation is linked to claims by the public broadcaster’s former Board Chairperson, Khanyi Mkhonza, against management as well as various unions representing workers at the SABC who compiled a dossier containing allegations of improprieties, corruption and the contempt of fiduciary duties by both the board and management. SABC Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago urged staffs and anyone with information to interact with the investigation team via a special e-mail account or through suggestion boxes.

SABC has recently been declared limping due to financial difficulties and have since asked for a R2.4 billion government bailout. The communication ministry have also announced plans to create a new funding model for the broadcaster.
