South African Press Ombudsman guest speaker at MISA workshop

The Press Ombudsman of South Joe Thloloe will be the guest speaker at a two-day MISA-Zimbabwe workshop on reporting in transitional states which opens in Bulawayo on 13 March 2009.

Tloloe will speak on the role of the media in a transitional democracy during which he will share experiences on South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy while drawing parallels with Zimbabwe’s own transition process.

More than 30 senior Zimbabwean journalists drawn from both the public and private media are expected to attend the workshop which will be facilitated by MISA-Zimbabwe in conjunction with the Johannesburg-based Institute for the Advancement of Journalists (IAJ).
Organised on the backdrop of the formation of the inclusive government following the signing of the Global Political Agreement by Zanu PF and the two MDC formations on 15 September 2009, the workshop will focus among other critical issues on media ethics and how the media can identify and pin the contextual transitional issues and the key players, target audience and stakeholders.

MISA-Zimbabwe Chairperson and Deputy Regional Governing Council Chairperson of MISA, Loughty Dube will officially open the two-day workshop.
