Journalists, get award at SADC Summit

The 31th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) which took place in Luanda gave awards to best journalists within the SADC member countries in 2011.

The award-winning journalists were José Lopes Canhina of Angola, in radio category, Mozambican Alfredo Mueche (photojournalism), Zimbabwean Justin Mahlahla (press) and Namibian Steven Ndorokaze (television), reported AngloPress.
The US$ 2000 prize, received by each winning professional, was handed over by the President of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba, in his capacity as outgoing chairman of the regional organization.
 
The winning journalists produced stories on SADC activities related to strategies contained in the Regional Development Plan. Fight against HIV/AIDS, internal and regional political and social stability, and sustained development as the guarantee of equal and effective participation of member countries in the development of the emerging world economic order, were also among the themes presented by the professionals.
 
The session also awarded students who wrote essays from six regional winning high schools, three of those were from Angolans. //End//
