Governor calls for the media to eradicate illiteracy

The provincial governor of Bengo, Joao Bernardo de Miranda, called for the establishment of a catalyst media that will participate in the fight against illiteracy in Caxito in order to enable citizens to access information about their area.

Speaking to the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) at a seminar to mark the commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day, on 3 May 2010, Miranda pointed out that all media audience and journalists should learn more and make the media an agent of development in Angola.

Miranda said the country need media that can advocate awareness on national unity, thus the journalist need to be informed before informing others.

May 3, was established by UNESCO as World Press Freedom Day, aimed at promoting a pluralistic and independent press. //End//
