Journalist recognized for merit reporting

A journalist with The Citizen, Sharifa Kalokola, has won recognition for health reporting during the Siemens Africa Profile Awards held recently in Doha, Qatar.

On the 10th July 2011, The Citizen reported that, she got a merit award for her article entitled "Abortion pills sold over the counter" during the annual event to honor journalists who excel in the field of science and health reporting.

The 2010 Siemens Profile Awards attracted 375 entries from 19 African countries in industry, energy, health and information technology as well as student categories.

The event was held as part of the seventh World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2011) in Doha.

Winners in each category were awarded for their outstanding works.

The Citizen reporter and another Kenyan journalist were the only ones from the EAC region to receive merits for their works.

Despite not winning in any of the categories, they were hailed for their professionalism. South Africa's minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandoie, was the patron of this year's awards.//End//
